Crime Stoppers is a partnership of the public, the police, and the media which provides the community with a proactive program for people to anonymously assist the police in solving crime.
As a registered charitable association the Crime Stoppers program relies on funding from a variety of community sources. Contributions from individuals, corporations, clubs, professional associations, and retailers keep the Crime Stoppers program operational. Many local businesses provide Crime Stoppers with goods and services in support of the program.
All donations to Crime Stoppers go toward the operation of the program, which includes the payment of rewards for successful tips, promotional material, board development and community events. On an annual basis Crime Stoppers of York Region pays out on average about $20,000 in rewards.
