Crime Stoppers needs your help in solving this crime.
Crime Stoppers and the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigation Bureau is warning residents, especially seniors, to protect themselves from fraud after three elderly women were defrauded in the Town of Richmond Hill of more than $4,000. There have also been incidents involving possibly the same suspects in the Town of Markham committing the same distraction thefts from homes of senior’s.
On Wednesday, March 31, 2010, two female suspects posing as social workers entered a private residence on Crosby Avenue and spoke to the two elderly female residents, both in their 80s. The two female suspects remained in the residence for approximately one hour and left without incident. It was not until the next day that one of the victims noticed more than $2,000 had been removed from her account.
Another similar incident took place on Friday, April 30, 2010. Two female suspects, posing as grief counsellors, entered a home on Parson Avenue and spoke to an 83-year-old woman who lived alone and was grieving the loss of her daughter. After a short conversation with the victim, both suspects left without incident. On Saturday, May 1, 2010, the victim received a phone call from her bank advising there had been more than $2,000 removed from her account.
Police believe one suspect distracted the victim while the second suspect obtained personal banking information.
The above two images is of the suspect using one of the victims cards at a bank in the City of Toronto.
