Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect that committed two separate distraction thefts at weddings in the City of Vaughan.
On Saturday, August 2nd, 2014, a theft occurred during a wedding at Le Jardin Banquet Hall located at 8440 Hwy 27 in the City of Vaughan. After the wedding, the newlyweds and family members were carrying jewellery to their vehicles when they were approached by an unknown male suspect who identified himself as a limousine driver. He insisted on helping family members take gifts from the banquet hall to their cars. During the transport, it is believed the suspect stole jewellery from a family member’s vehicle totaling $15,000.
On Sunday, October 5th, 2014, a second theft occurred during another wedding at Le Jardin Banquet Hall. After the wedding, the newlyweds and family members were carrying gifts and a money box to their vehicles. They were approached by an unknown male suspect who identified himself as an employee of the banquet hall. The insisted on helping family members carry the gifts and money box to the cars. During the transport, the money box was stolen from a family member’s vehicle containing $40-50,000 in money and personal cheques.
THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS:
Male, white, dark skin, 20-30 years of age, 6’, thin build, black hair possibly in a ponytail.
